Doda, July 25: Two individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when a tempo vehicle was involved in a road accident in the Jatheli Mohalla area of Doda district on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the tempo, registered under the number JK06B-8096, veered off the road and crashed in Jatheli Mohalla, falling under the jurisdiction of the Doda Police Station. Authorities have stated that the accident resulted in immediate fatalities for two passengers, while the remaining four were injured.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda for urgent medical attention and treatment. At present, the identities of both the deceased and the injured individuals have not yet been officially confirmed or released. The precise cause that led to the tempo accident is currently under investigation by the concerned authorities.
The local police have registered a case concerning the incident and have commenced further proceedings to ascertain all details surrounding the fatal crash. The tempo, a commercial vehicle often used for transporting goods and passengers in hilly terrains, is a common mode of transport in the region. Accidents involving such vehicles are often attributed to factors such as road conditions, speed, and mechanical failures, especially in the challenging topography of the Chenab Valley.
Doda district, like many other areas in the Jammu and Kashmir region, is characterized by narrow, winding roads and steep gradients, which can pose significant risks to drivers. Road safety remains a persistent concern, with authorities frequently urging caution and adherence to traffic regulations. The administration has been making efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance awareness about safe driving practices, but the frequency of accidents underscores the ongoing challenges.
The investigation into the accident is expected to cover all angles, including a thorough examination of the vehicle for any mechanical defects and an assessment of the road conditions at the accident site. The police will also be recording statements from any witnesses who may have observed the incident. The local community in Doda has expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended their sympathies to the families of the victims. The ongoing probe aims to provide clarity on the circumstances leading to the tragedy and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
