Police Detains Two Notorious Drug Peddlers Under PSA (PITNDPS) in Doda District

In a recent development, the Doda Police have taken stringent action by detaining two individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA) – Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS). The arrests follow claims made by the police regarding the active involvement of these individuals in illicit drug trafficking and their repeated criminal activities that have posed a significant threat to the local populace.

As per statement issued to The Chenab Times, police said that the detainees have been identified as Sajad Ahmed Butt, son of Gulam Qadir Butt, a resident of Wanda Beoli in Doda, and Muzamil Rafiq, son of Mohd Rafiq Ganie, from Sultanpura in Bhaderwah District Doda. The police assert that both individuals have been habitual offenders, with a history of multiple FIRs registered against them at Police Station Bhaderwah and Doda.

Specifically, Sajad Ahmed Butt faces allegations in Case FIR No. 159/2021 and FIR No. 153/2023 under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Doda. Similarly, Muzamil Rafiq has had cases registered against him in Case FIR No. 166/2019 and FIR No. 60/2023 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Bhaderwah.

The police claim that the detention of these individuals under the PSA is a necessary measure to deter criminal activities and protect the local youth from the pernicious effects of drug trafficking. They maintain that their actions are in line with the law and will serve as a warning to other potential offenders.

Doda Police’s commitment to curbing drug-related offenses is evident in their claim of having registered a total of 20 FIRs against 26 offenders involved in such activities this year. Additionally, they have reportedly detained three notorious drug peddlers under the PSA (PITNDPS) and taken preventive custody measures against several individuals for their alleged roles in drug selling and addiction.

The police have called upon the general public to cooperate with their efforts and have issued a stern warning to individuals involved in drug smuggling and other criminal activities. They claim that stringent legal actions, including detention under PSA and the attachment of property belonging to habitual offenders, will be taken against those found guilty.
