Doda, 30 Nov– Three people lost their lives after a private car veered off National Highway 244 and plunged into the Chenab River near Kandhote in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning.
The vehicle, bearing registration number JK06B 2993, was traveling from Chariya village to Doda city when it met with the accident at approximately 8:30 a.m. Authorities confirmed the deaths of Sanjeet Kumar (25), Bali Ram (60), and Purana Devi (60).
Sanjeet Kumar, the driver of the vehicle and a resident of Chariya, was reportedly en route to Jammu to appear for an SSC examination scheduled for tomorrow, according the sources of The Chenab Times. The other two victims, Bali Ram and Purana Devi, were identified as his relatives and hailed from Inderala village.
While the body of Purana Devi was recovered and shifted to the Community Health Center in Thathri, the bodies of Sanjeet Kumar and Bali Ram remain missing, as the vehicle sank into the river. Efforts to locate the missing bodies are underway, with Ababeel NGO, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police conducting search and rescue operations.
Eyewitnesses and local residents raised concerns that the car might have carried five passengers, although officials have confirmed the presence of only three occupants so far.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and confirm the number of passengers in the vehicle.
