How Elder Line 14567 helped an old lady get justice

Two weeks ago, an old lady went to the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thathri with a complaint. Her children had abandoned her and were in possession of her property, but they were not providing her with maintenance. SDM Thathri told The Chenab Times that rather than dealing with the issue at his level, he preferred a call from the lady to Elder Line 14567, an agency associated with the Social Welfare Department. The Elder Line actively involved themselves in the case and got the lady 50% of her property for her exclusive use, along with Rs 1000 from each son per month. The SDM is sharing this story to bring the work of this agency on record and to spread awareness about the benefits of government facilities that are available for such cases, which are occurring frequently.

Elder Line 14567: Who are they?

Elder Line 14567 is a helpline that was set up by the Indian government to assist senior citizens who are in distress. This helpline is a part of the Social Welfare Department and is available to senior citizens across the country. The Elder Line is staffed by trained professionals who are knowledgeable about the laws and regulations that apply to senior citizens. They provide emotional support, legal guidance, and other assistance to senior citizens who need help.

The Importance of Elder Line 14567

The Elder Line 14567 is an essential resource for senior citizens in India. With the rapidly aging population in the country, more and more senior citizens are finding themselves in difficult situations, as per details available with The Chenab Times. They may be facing abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. In some cases, they may not be aware of their legal rights or may not have the resources to fight for their rights. The Elder Line provides a lifeline for these seniors, helping them to get the help and support they need.

How Elder Line 14567 helped the old lady

When the old lady went to the SDM’s office, she was in a desperate situation. Her children had abandoned her, and she had no one to turn to for help. The SDM recognized the seriousness of the situation and suggested that she call the Elder Line for assistance. The lady made the call, and the professionals at the Elder Line immediately began working on her case.

They started by investigating the old lady’s complaint and gathering evidence to support her claim. They then contacted the lady’s sons and informed them that they were in violation of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. The Act states that children are responsible for providing maintenance to their parents in their old age. The Elder Line informed the sons that they were legally obligated to provide their mother with maintenance and that they could face legal consequences if they did not comply.

The sons initially refused to comply with the Elder Line’s demands, but the professionals at the helpline did not give up. They continued to work on the case, providing legal guidance to the lady and keeping her informed about the progress. Finally, after several weeks of negotiation, the sons agreed to provide their mother with 50% of her property for her exclusive use and Rs 1000 from each son per month.
