People of J&K can’t be deprived of elected govt for a long time: Azad

In a public gathering at Bandipora, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad called for the restoration of elected government in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the people cannot be deprived of their democratic rights for an extended period. Azad, who was the former Chief Minister of J&K, promised to work towards providing free electricity and other benefits to the poor, and to create diverse economic opportunities in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and horticulture, if his party is elected to power.

Azad expressed his concerns about the socioeconomic indicators of J&K, stating that the region is being pushed into a dark era with dwindling economic opportunities, declining per capita income, and lack of job creation for the youth. He reiterated that DPAP is the only platform to take the Union Territory out of this quagmire and promised to deliver on his promises.

The DPAP chairman also criticized successive governments for overlooking the growing infrastructural requirements of Bandipora, and claimed that he granted the district status to the area, opened hospitals and colleges, and set up a long network of roads for the benefit of the people when he was the Chief Minister. He vowed to continue fighting against any injustice done to the people and cited the recent protests against land eviction as an example of his party’s commitment to their cause.

Among those present at the public gathering were DPAP’s Vice Chairman G.M Saroori, treasurer Taj Mohiuddin, and Provincial President Mohammad Amin Bhat, among others. Azad’s speech was well-received by the crowd, who expressed hope that his party would deliver on their promises and work towards the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
