Couple Impersonating as IPS, IAS Officers Arrested in Srinagar, Fraudulent Activities Uncovered: Jammu and Kashmir Police

In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended a couple for impersonating as high-ranking officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in Srinagar district. The arrests were made following a written complaint received by the Sadder Police Station, detailing fraudulent activities committed by the duo.

According to an official statement released by the police, the accused have been identified as Manmohan Gangoo, son of the late Gardari Lal Gangoo, and his wife Ayoush Koul. Manmohan Gangoo had reportedly posed as an IPS officer, falsely claiming to hold the designation despite being a suspended Head Constable. Ayoush Koul, on the other hand, had taken on the persona of an IAS officer. The couple is alleged to have swindled numerous individuals by promising them employment opportunities, exploiting their false identities.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly registered an FIR (First Information Report) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 170 (personating a public servant), and 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.). Swift action led to the apprehension of the accused, with authorities initiating a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

During the ongoing investigation, law enforcement officials have reportedly seized incriminating evidence, including money, jewelry, and electronic devices, which contain fake orders and documents. The couple’s audacious scheme extended to fabricating an induction order into the IPS for Manmohan Gangoo himself.
