A fire broke out this evening at approximately 8 PM in the main market of Thathri town in Doda district of Chenab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir, causing significant damage to four shops, including the complete destruction of a mobile shop owned by Adnan Zargar, son of Akther Hussain Zargar, a resident of Jangalwar.
The fire also affected two sweet shops owned by Naresh Sharma, son of Des Raj from Badanoo, and Shah Furnishing shop owned by Zubair Alam Shah, son of Abdul Hafiz Shah from Phagsoo. The fire was brought under control thanks to the combined efforts of local residents and the swift response from the Fire and Emergency Services and police personnel.
Local resident Kamran Zargar, speaking with The Chenab Times, highlighted the urgent need for improved fire safety measures in the area. “Fire hydrants should be installed in the main market for the quick refill of fire brigade vehicles. This incident shows the importance of having accessible fire safety infrastructure,” Zargar emphasized.
Zargar also commended the firefighters for their prompt response. “We appreciate the firefighters for reaching the scene within minutes of being alerted and controlling the fire. Their quick action prevented a potentially worse disaster,” he added.
Although no lives were lost, the incident resulted in substantial property damage, with the mobile shop suffering complete destruction and the other three shops incurring partial losses.
