Rescue teams are actively searching for 27 individuals missing after a passenger boat capsized in rough seas on Monday. The vessel was en route to a remote village in eastern Indonesia when the incident occurred.
Search Operation Intensifies
The boat, identified as Nazila 05, was carrying 27 passengers and crew members. It had departed from Taliabu Island in North Maluku province, heading towards Kema, a coastal village within the same province. The journey began shortly after dusk on Sunday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the incident was reported to authorities on Monday morning by the boat’s owner, Rifani Samatia. He was alerted by the captain of Nazila 05, who reported that the vessel’s bow had fractured after being struck by high waves amidst adverse weather conditions. Approximately 30 minutes after the initial report of damage, the captain informed that the vessel had sunk.
The search and rescue operation is being coordinated by the search and rescue office in Palu city, Central Sulawesi. Officials have deployed resources to locate the missing passengers and crew. The challenging sea conditions in the region are reportedly hampering rescue efforts.
Further details regarding the cause of the sinking are yet to be fully ascertained, pending the outcome of the ongoing search and potential recovery of survivors or wreckage. Authorities are gathering information from maritime agencies and local sources to piece together the events leading to the accident.
