Jammu and Kashmir Assembly: MLAs Voice Concerns Over Healthcare, Education, Infrastructure Gaps

SRINAGAR: Legislators in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday utilized the Zero Hour to spotlight a spectrum of public grievances, urging the administration to address critical deficiencies in healthcare, education, infrastructure, public utilities, and administrative services across various constituencies.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that highlighted specific concerns raised by several members. MLA Shagun Parihar drew attention to a shortage of specialist doctors at the District Hospital Kishtwar, emphasizing the immediate need for an anaesthetist and a radiologist to ensure continuity of essential medical services. MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone advocated for an extension of the Power Amnesty Scheme by another year, aiming to provide relief to consumers facing potential disconnections.

Concerns regarding manpower shortages were also voiced by MLA Shafi Ahmad Wani for Budgam, who pointed out a significant number of vacant positions for Deputy Chief Education Officers, Zonal Education Officers, headmasters, and principals in higher secondary schools. In a separate matter, MLA Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir called for the resumption of construction on the Government Degree College Rajpora, a project that has been pending for several years. MLA Javaid Riyaz Bedar requested the appointment of an Executive Officer for the Municipal Committee Pattan and the filling of vacant ZEO and BDO posts within his electoral district.

Further issues brought forth included those raised by MLA Tariq Hamid Karra, who addressed allegations of inflated electricity bills resulting from load enhancements conducted without consumer consent, seeking governmental intervention. MLA Devinder Kumar Manyal highlighted the imperative of timely admissions for NEET-PG candidates to protect the interests of medical aspirants from the region. MLA Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat sought the clearance of long-standing dues owed to depositors of the J&K SCARD Bank.

Strengthening diagnostic capabilities at the District Hospital Pulwama was the focus for MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para, who demanded the deployment of a radiologist. MLA Javaid Ahmad Mirchal urged the filling of vacancies within the Health and Irrigation departments. Concurrently, MLA Choudhary Mohammed Akram requested the release of the provisional list of field functionaries in the Agriculture Production Department and the streamlining of the National Pension System.

MLA Muzaffer Iqbal Khan raised issues pertaining to the rehabilitation of families impacted by road slippages and also sought an expansion of hostel facilities for postgraduate students at the Pahari Hostels. Disparities in access to LPG services between rural and urban areas were highlighted by MLA Surinder Kumar. MLA Zaffar Ali Khatana pressed for the filling of key administrative positions, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kokernag and Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Kokernag, while also supporting the extension of the Power Amnesty Scheme.

Infrastructure development was also a key theme, with MLA Arjun Singh Raju calling for improvements to road networks to facilitate the smooth operation of SRTC buses in his constituency. MLA Javaid Iqbal requested an investigation into mysterious deaths reported in Budhal, Rajouri, last year and sought increased bus services to enhance connectivity. MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad Pardesi urged the development of a plan for the optimal utilization of the vacant GB Pant Hospital premises, noting the inadequacy of healthcare facilities in surrounding areas following the relocation of the paediatric hospital. Finally, MLA Satish Sharma called for an inquiry into damage sustained by recently constructed volleyball and badminton courts due to rainfall and also requested the deployment of a fire tender in his constituency.

The discussions during Zero Hour underscored a broad range of public concerns across Jammu and Kashmir, with members of the Legislative Assembly actively advocating for prompt government action to improve governance and the delivery of essential services.
