SRINAGAR, Mar 31: Abdul Rahim Rather, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, on Tuesday stated that the prevailing security scenario in the region cannot be underestimated and requires continuous vigilance, drawing lessons from past incidents to inform present decision-making.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Speaker’s remarks came during a discussion concerning the withdrawal of security details from the National Conference headquarters and several legislators. Rather emphasized that individuals who have personally experienced security threats are better positioned to comprehend the associated risks.
He acknowledged that despite official assertions of improvement, the situation continues to necessitate a cautious approach. “Keeping in view past security events, we must remain vigilant. Security cannot be treated casually,” the Speaker asserted, highlighting the need for continued preparedness.
The Speaker further suggested that if the administration is confident of a complete normalization, it should formally declare Jammu and Kashmir a risk-free region. This statement implies a call for clarity and decisive action from the government regarding the security situation on the ground.
Abdul Rahim Rather expressed his expectation that the concerns articulated by the legislators during the assembly session would be given serious consideration by the relevant authorities.
