Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has strongly criticized Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan for his reported statement describing himself as a “stress buster” for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yadav asserted that a Member of Parliament represents the populace and is not a “toy” of the Chief Minister, questioning the functioning of the state government.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Yadav, who is also the Member of Parliament from Kannauj and leads the third-largest party in the Lok Sabha, took to the social media platform X to voice his concerns. He alleged that while citizens of Uttar Pradesh are grappling with significant hardships, leaders of the ruling party are preoccupied with what he termed as “frivolous exchanges” amongst themselves.
The Samajwadi Party president further remarked that such public statements were a source of embarrassment for Gorakhpur, the constituency represented by Ravi Kishan in the Lok Sabha. Yadav suggested that the BJP MP might face repercussions for publicly stating that the Chief Minister was under “stress.” He posited that public discontent stemming from alleged corruption and “atrocities” by the government could be contributing factors to this alleged stress.
These remarks by Yadav were made in response to a media report that quoted Kishan as saying that Chief Minister Adityanath enjoys his company and that he serves as a “stress buster” for the CM. The interaction between the Chief Minister and the Gorakhpur MP has often been observed during public events, where they have been seen sharing amiable moments. Gorakhpur itself is a significant political stronghold for Adityanath, who is also closely associated with the Gorakhnath Math.
This is not the first instance of Yadav taking a jab at Kishan. Last year, when the BJP MP drew a comparison between Gorakhpur and Spain, Yadav had publicly questioned whether Kishan could accurately locate Spain on a world map. The exchange highlighted a persistent political rivalry and differing perspectives between the leaders of the Samajwadi Party and the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
The political discourse in Uttar Pradesh has frequently seen sharp exchanges between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP, particularly concerning governance and the priorities of the state administration. Yadav’s latest statements underscore the ongoing scrutiny faced by the state government from opposition parties, focusing on public welfare and accountability of elected officials.
The reported comments from Kishan have ignited a debate regarding the decorum and responsibilities expected from elected representatives, especially in the context of their relationship with the head of the state government. Yadav’s stance emphasizes the constitutional role of an MP as a representative of the people, distinct from any personal or advisory capacity to a Chief Minister.
While the Chief Minister’s office or the BJP has not yet issued an official response to Yadav’s remarks, the criticism from the Samajwadi Party chief is expected to fuel further political discussions and debates across Uttar Pradesh. The nature of the statements, particularly the characterization of an MP as a “stress buster” for a Chief Minister, has drawn attention to the broader political culture and communication styles within the state’s leadership.
The situation highlights the critical role of public perception and the impact of such remarks on the image of both the leaders and the government they represent. Yadav’s critique aims to highlight what he perceives as a disconnect between the ruling party’s leadership and the pressing issues faced by the common people of Uttar Pradesh. The political landscape in the state continues to be shaped by such verbal sparring, reflecting the competitive nature of Indian politics.
