Himachal Pradesh: Soldier Dies During Special Forces Training in Bakloh

A 26-year-old Indian Army soldier, Mohit Kumar, has died during training at the Special Forces Training School (SFTS) in the Bakloh Military Cantonment, Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. He was cremated with full state honours in his native village of Sahupura in Faridabad district on Monday.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the soldier, Mohit Kumar, sustained a head injury during a boxing exercise on April 18. He was undergoing training at the SFTS, which is located in the Bakloh Military Cantonment. Following the injury, he was immediately transferred to the military hospital in Bakloh. His condition deteriorated during treatment, and he passed away on Sunday.

The mortal remains of the soldier were brought to his native village in Faridabad for the final rites. Mohit Kumar’s elder brother performed the last rites, lighting the pyre amidst a large gathering of mourners. The funeral procession saw a significant turnout, with many paying their respects to the fallen soldier.

Several political figures and representatives attended the cremation to offer their condolences to the bereaved family. Union Minister of State Krishnapal Gurjar and Ballabhgarh MLA Moolchand Sharma were among those present, extending their sympathies to Mohit Kumar’s family during their time of grief.

Mohit Kumar was associated with the 29 Para unit of the Indian Army and was previously posted in Agra. He had joined the armed forces eight years ago. His family members shared that he had reported to the SFTS for specialized training just 40 days prior to his death.

The soldier’s family indicated that he had always aspired to serve the nation by joining the Army. He successfully achieved this goal, enlisting as a soldier on his first attempt after dedicated preparation. His family expressed pride in his service and ultimate sacrifice.

Mohit Kumar, the youngest of three brothers, had recently married in February. His elder brother holds a position as a government officer, while the second brother is employed in the private sector.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation within the military. The Special Forces Training School in Bakloh is a key facility for advanced military training. Such incidents, while rare, highlight the inherent risks associated with rigorous military exercises and training protocols.

The passing of a young soldier during training serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by individuals in service to the country. The Indian Army maintains stringent safety protocols during training, but the nature of special forces operations demands high-intensity exercises that carry inherent risks. Details regarding the specific nature of the boxing exercise and the injury are part of the ongoing internal review processes within the Army.
