Uttar Pradesh: Eight Killed in Ambedkar Nagar as Car Hits Bystanders After Bike Collision

Eight people were killed and several others injured when a speeding car ploughed into a group of bystanders who had gathered to help victims of a motorcycle crash in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district. The tragic incident occurred late Sunday night near Ashrafpur Bhua village on the Jalalpur-Akbarpur road.

Incident Unfolds After Initial Collision

The sequence of events began when two motorcycles collided, resulting in injuries to two individuals. As local residents and passersby rushed to the scene to provide assistance, a speeding car lost control and struck the group of people attending to the injured motorcyclists. The impact caused chaos and panic in the area.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the injured were initially taken to a community health centre. Doctors at the health centre declared six people dead upon arrival. Two critically injured individuals were then referred to the Ambedkar Nagar district hospital and subsequently to a hospital in Tanda, where they succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to eight. The deceased have been identified as Kaifi (32), Uttam Kumar (24), Aditya Kumar (25), Lalchand (24), Raju Gupta (32), and Chhotu, along with two unidentified individuals.

Driver Fled Scene, Investigation Underway

According to police reports, the driver of the car attempted to flee the scene following the accident. However, the vehicle veered off the road and became stuck in a roadside pit. The driver then abandoned the car and escaped on foot. Police have since arrested the accused driver, identified as Vishal Vishkarma, aged 30, and he is currently being questioned.

Authorities are piecing together the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy. The car involved in the incident has been sent for a technical examination to determine if any mechanical failure contributed to the crash. Circle Officer Anoop Kumar Singh stated that a clearer picture will emerge after eyewitnesses and residents present at the scene record their statements.

Broader Context of Road Safety in Uttar Pradesh

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety in Uttar Pradesh. The state has witnessed numerous accidents involving speeding vehicles and a disregard for traffic regulations. In February 2026, a similar incident occurred in Lucknow where a speeding car, driven by a minor, rammed into an autorickshaw and pedestrians, resulting in the death of a six-year-old boy and injuries to four others. Another incident in Lucknow in June 2025 saw a car lose control and hit several pedestrians, injuring three, including a child. These events underscore the critical need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and increased public awareness campaigns to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

The Ambedkar Nagar district administration has initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Efforts are also underway to identify the two deceased individuals who remain unidentified. The focus remains on understanding the circumstances that led to the car driver losing control and colliding with the group of bystanders.
