Delhi: NTA Cancels NEET UG 2026 Exam Due to Paper Leak; Re-examination Soon

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 examination, which was conducted on May 3. The decision follows inputs from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities, which indicated that the integrity of the examination process had been compromised.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that a re-examination will be conducted for all candidates. Fresh dates for the examination will be notified separately by the agency. In response to the widespread concerns and irregularities, the government has decided to transfer the entire matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough and comprehensive inquiry.

The NTA has assured candidates that no fresh registration will be required for the upcoming re-examination. Furthermore, no additional examination fee will be levied, and the existing registration data along with the allocated exam centres will be carried forward to the new examination schedule. The agency also confirmed that fees already paid by the students for the cancelled examination will be fully refunded.

The cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination underscores the seriousness of the paper leak allegations that have surfaced. The NEET UG is a highly competitive examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India, attracting millions of aspirants annually. The integrity and fairness of the examination process are paramount for ensuring equal opportunities for all students aspiring to enter the medical profession.

The involvement of central agencies and the subsequent handing over of the case to the CBI highlights the gravity of the situation. The CBI is expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged paper leak, identifying all individuals and networks involved in the malpractice. This measure aims to restore faith in the examination system and prevent future occurrences of such incidents.

The NTA, responsible for conducting various entrance examinations, including NEET, faces significant scrutiny following this incident. The agency has been tasked with ensuring a transparent and secure examination process. The decision to cancel and reschedule the examination, while disruptive for students, is seen as a necessary step to uphold academic integrity. The focus now shifts to the CBI’s investigation and the timely announcement of new examination dates to minimize the academic disruption for the aspiring medical students.

The examination is a critical gateway for aspiring doctors, and any compromise in its conduct raises serious concerns about the future of medical education in the country. The government’s swift action to cancel the exam and initiate a CBI probe signals its commitment to addressing the issue decisively. Students are advised to regularly check the official NTA website for further updates regarding the re-examination dates and related procedures.
