WASHINGTON D.C. – United States Vice President JD Vance stated on Tuesday that significant progress has been achieved in ongoing talks between the U.S. and Iran, emphasizing that neither nation desires a return to military conflict.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Vance conveyed optimism regarding the negotiations, noting, “We think that we’ve made a lot of progress. We think the Iranians want to make a deal.”
During a White House briefing, Vance underscored the core U.S. objective: preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He elaborated that the proliferation of nuclear capabilities is a grave concern, as it could trigger a cascade effect, prompting regional and global powers to pursue their own nuclear arsenals. “We want to keep the number of countries that have nuclear weapons small, and that’s why Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Vance stated.
The administration’s objective in these negotiations is to establish a process that guarantees Iran will not reconstitute its capacity to develop nuclear weapons in the future. “That’s what we’re trying to accomplish in negotiations,” Vance added.
U.S. President Trump is reportedly under pressure to secure an agreement that would facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and commodity transit. Previously, President Trump had expressed hope that a deal was imminent and had also threatened to resume military strikes against Iran if an accord was not reached.
Addressing concerns about Russia potentially taking possession of Iran’s enriched uranium, Vance clarified that such a scenario is not currently part of the United States government’s plan, and Iran has not raised this possibility. “That is not currently the plan of the United States government. The Iranians have not raised it,” he said.
