New Delhi: In connection with a firing incident outside a hotel in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area earlier this week, the Delhi Police have arrested one man and apprehended a juvenile. The incident, which occurred over a dispute related to club billing, saw masked assailants allegedly discharge four rounds at the hotel gate before fleeing the scene. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has also seized two semi-automatic pistols and four live cartridges from the accused individuals.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the incident took place on the intervening night of May 20-21 outside the Ginger Hotel in Vivek Vihar. Following the firing, a case was registered at the Vivek Vihar police station, and an investigation was initiated by the Special Cell. Information regarding the suspects’ movements in the Ghazipur area led the police to lay a trap near Link Road at Ghazipur Paper Market on May 23, based on a tip-off. It was in this area that the two accused were apprehended.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ajay, 19, who is also known by the alias Ajju. The juvenile apprehended alongside him was also found to be involved in the incident. During a search of the accused, one semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges were allegedly recovered from Ajay. Similarly, another pistol and two live cartridges were seized from the juvenile’s possession.
Initial police investigations have revealed that the accused and their associates harboured animosity towards the hotel management. This grievance stemmed from a prior altercation concerning billing that took place during a party held at the club earlier this month. Law enforcement officials stated that the firing incident was carried out with the intention of retaliating against the hotel management and to instill fear.
Further inquiries have indicated that Ajay, one of the apprehended individuals, has a previous involvement in a case of attempted murder. The police are currently intensifying their efforts to locate any remaining absconding individuals connected to the incident. Additionally, investigations are ongoing to determine the source from which the illegal firearms used in the shooting were procured.
The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public order, particularly in instances involving disputes escalating to violence. The recovery of illegal firearms also highlights the ongoing efforts required to curb the proliferation of such weapons within the city.
