Jammu and Kashmir: Eid Prayers Set for Eidgah Srinagar Amidst Auqaf Expectations

Srinagar: Arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the historic Eidgah Srinagar are being finalized, with the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid scheduling the congregational prayers for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27. Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is expected to deliver a sermon prior to the prayers, focusing on the significance of Eid-ul-Azha and the spirit of sacrifice.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that a meeting of the managing body of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, chaired by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was convened to oversee the preparations. The gathering discussed measures for the smooth conduct of Eid prayers and associated religious congregations.

It was confirmed that the Eid prayers, in accordance with the prescribed Sunnah, will be held at Eidgah Srinagar at 9:30 a.m. Before the prayers commence at 8:30 a.m., Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir is slated to deliver a sermon on the philosophy and importance of Eid-ul-Azha and Qurbani. His address is intended to highlight the core tenets of sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and devotion inherent in the occasion.

During the meeting, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq directed the Auqaf authorities to collaborate with the Waqf Board to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place at Eidgah Srinagar. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with the civil administration to facilitate a seamless and trouble-free experience for attendees during the congregational prayers.

Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir undertook a personal visit to Eidgah Srinagar to assess the ground situation and review the ongoing preparations. He noted that if the weather conditions permit, the Eid prayers can be conducted without disruption at the Eidgah.

The Anjuman Auqaf expressed its hope that the authorities will not impede the offering of Eid prayers at Eidgah Srinagar. The organization stated that the Eidgah ground is currently in good condition and that the construction of a new mimbar has also been completed. These factors, the Auqaf suggested, negate any justification for imposing restrictions or creating obstacles for holding the prayers at the venue.

The Auqaf further indicated that in the event of adverse weather, Eid prayers would be conducted at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar. However, the organization voiced concern regarding the administration’s perceived practice of delaying decisions until the last moment, which has previously led to the disallowance of Eid prayers at either Eidgah or Jamia Masjid. Such actions, the Auqaf stated, deeply affect the religious sentiments of the populace and constitute a significant interference with their fundamental religious rights and freedoms.

The Anjuman Auqaf conveyed its hope that the administration will refrain from adopting a similar approach this Eid, thereby allowing devotees to observe their Eid prayers at Eidgah without any uncertainty or last-minute complications.
