Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders London event, Boyle shared that the production operated with a “siege mentality.”

The filmmaker was joined on stage by screenwriter James Graham and actor Jack O’Connell, key collaborators on the project. Boyle’s remarks highlighted the demanding nature of bringing the story of a prominent and often controversial media empire to the screen, suggesting a unified and determined approach from the film’s team in the face of these difficulties.

While specific details about the nature of the challenges were not elaborated upon at the event, the mention of a “siege mentality” implies a period of intense focus, external pressures, and a strong internal resolve to overcome obstacles during the filmmaking process. The film “Ink” aims to delve into the formative years of The Sun, a newspaper that significantly shaped British journalism and public discourse under Murdoch’s ownership.

The discussion at Contenders London offered a glimpse into the creative and logistical hurdles faced by Boyle and his team as they navigated the complex narrative of a powerful media figure and his impact on the press landscape. The film’s exploration of “The Sun’s” beginnings suggests a deep dive into the strategic decisions and cultural shifts that defined its rise.
