Tamil Nadu Government Undertakes Significant IAS Reshuffle, Appointing New District Collectors and Corporation Commissioners

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has initiated a substantial administrative reshuffle, transferring over 30 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to key positions across various departments, district administrations, and state-owned entities. The extensive exercise, aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and governance delivery, saw significant changes at the district level, with fifteen District Collectors being shifted and ten districts receiving new Collectors.

The reshuffle included the appointment of new Collectors for Madurai, Nagapattinam, Theni, Dharmapuri, Kanniyakumari, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ranipet, and Namakkal districts. Several senior IAS officers have been assigned new responsibilities in departments such as Finance, Health and Family Welfare, and Collegiate Education, among others.

P.S. Leela Alex has been appointed as the new Collector of Vellore district, succeeding V.R. Subbulaxmi, who has been posted as Member Secretary of the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust and Managing Director of Chennai Rivers Transformation Company Limited. N. Priya will assume the role of Collector for Ranipet district, while Vandana Garg takes charge as the Collector of Tiruvannamalai district. J.E. Padmaja, formerly Additional Collector in Villupuram district, has been appointed Collector of Kallakurichi district.

In other significant district-level changes, P. Akash, who previously served as Collector of Nagapattinam, has been transferred to Madurai as its new Collector. K.J. Praveen Kumar is the new Collector of Nagapattinam. Dr. R. Vaithinathan has been appointed as the Collector of Theni district, and V. Saravanan has been transferred from Tiruchirappalli to Dharmapuri as its District Collector. Pratik Tayal has been appointed as the Tiruchirappalli District Collector.

The administrative overhaul also saw changes in municipal leadership. M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, who was the Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, has been transferred and appointed as the Collector of Ramanathapuram district. Veer Pratap Singh, Gaurav Kumar, and Katta Ravi Teja have been appointed as Commissioners of the municipal corporations of Tiruchy, Madurai, and Coimbatore, respectively.

Further departmental realignments include E. Sundaravalli, formerly Commissioner of Collegiate Education, being appointed Special Secretary to the Government, Public and Rehabilitation Department. R. Lalitha has been posted as Secretary to the Government (Expenditure) in the Finance Department. District Collectors of Tenkasi and Kallakurichi, A.K. Kamal Kishore and M.S. Prasanth respectively, have been posted as Joint Secretaries in the Finance Department. R. Alagumeena, who was the District Collector of Kanniyakumari, has been appointed Deputy Secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Pooja Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board, has been appointed Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise. V. Amuthavalli will serve as Commissioner of Rural Development, and P. Ponniah has been appointed Commissioner of Collegiate Education. Dr. T.G. Vinay has been appointed Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments. R. Kannan has been appointed Commissioner of Sugar, with an additional charge as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Watershed Development Agency.

The transfer orders, issued on Friday, May 29, 2026, affect a broad spectrum of IAS officers, including those holding positions as departmental secretaries and heads of state-run corporations. This large-scale administrative exercise is expected to bring fresh perspectives and reinforce the operational capabilities of various government departments and district administrations across Tamil Nadu.
