Jammu and Kashmir Congress Stages Protest Against Price Rise, Unemployment, Paper Leaks

JAMMU, June 3 – The Congress party staged a protest in Jammu on Wednesday, voicing strong opposition to escalating prices, widespread unemployment, and a series of alleged paper leak incidents. Party leaders accused the government of failing to address the pressing economic difficulties faced by ordinary citizens and the growing concerns of the region’s youth.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) working president Raman Bhalla highlighted inflation as one of the most significant challenges confronting households. He asserted that the continuous surge in the costs of essential commodities, including food items, cooking gas, fuel, medicines, and electricity, has severely impacted family budgets, with the economically weaker sections bearing the heaviest burden. Bhalla further alleged that the rise in fuel prices has created a ripple effect, increasing transportation costs and consequently driving up the prices of food grains, vegetables, and other daily necessities.

Bhalla urged the government to implement immediate measures aimed at stabilizing prices and providing essential relief to the more vulnerable segments of society. He called for the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to combat inflation, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced job creation, increased investment in productive economic sectors, and strengthened social welfare programs designed to boost household incomes and restore economic confidence among the populace.

Former minister Yogesh Sawhney stated that the protest movement reflects the increasing frustration among citizens who are struggling to cope with the rising cost of living. Sawhney affirmed that the Congress party would persist in raising public issues through sustained protests and by utilizing institutional forums until meaningful relief measures are officially announced and implemented by the authorities.

JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma commented on the broader economic implications, noting that elevated prices tend to depress consumer demand, negatively affect businesses, and consequently limit employment opportunities for the region’s young population. He expressed particular concern over the escalating rates of unemployment and the recurring incidents of paper leaks in examination processes, observing that these developments have significantly amplified the sense of frustration among students and aspiring job candidates.

A considerable number of senior Congress leaders, party workers, women, youth representatives, and local residents participated in the demonstration, underscoring the widespread nature of the grievances being addressed. The protest, organized by the J&K Congress, aimed to draw the administration’s attention to these critical socio-economic issues plaguing the Union Territory.
