A loud explosion-like sound late Saturday night near the Majitha road police station in Amritsar caused widespread panic and speculation of a grenade attack. The Station House Officer (SHO), Rakesh Kumar, who was engaged in vehicle checking nearby, rushed to the police station with personnel upon hearing the noise.
Following a thorough investigation of the premises, the police determined that the alarming sound was not the result of an explosive device but rather the bursting of the front tyre and tube of an old police response vehicle (PCR motorcycle) parked within the station grounds. SHO Rakesh Kumar confirmed that no explosive materials were involved and described the incident as purely accidental.
