SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has confirmed his government’s intention to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The demonstration aims to press for the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, a promise he stated was made in the Supreme Court, Parliament, and various public forums.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Abdullah reiterated the plan to travel to the national capital to convey the region’s demand. “There is no change in that plan. We have a complete intention to go to Delhi and keep our message at Jantar Mantar to remind the people of Jammu and Kashmir about the promise of statehood,” the Chief Minister told reporters.
In recent discussions, Abdullah disclosed that he had raised several key issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the financial standing of Jammu and Kashmir and strategies to accelerate development. “I spoke to the PM on various issues. I spoke about statehood, the financial position of Jammu and Kashmir, and how development can be accelerated. I hope the people will benefit from that conversation,” he said.
Addressing the long-standing demand for reservation, Abdullah explained the administrative process. He noted that a report from a Cabinet sub-committee had been approved by the state Cabinet and subsequently forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor, who then referred it to the Central government. The Central government sought clarifications, leading to the file being returned. The relevant department has prepared responses, and the Cabinet is expected to approve them in an upcoming meeting before they are sent back to the Centre.
The Chief Minister also highlighted a recent administrative accomplishment: the appointment of 132 junior engineers to the Public Works Department (PWD). “Today, 132 new junior engineers have joined the PWD. This will have a positive impact on ground-level development,” Abdullah stated, extending congratulations to the Deputy Chief Minister.
Preparations for the upcoming month of Muharram are also underway. Ministers have been visiting various areas, and efforts are being made to ensure the public does not face difficulties during the observance. “We have made preparations. We hope people will not face difficulties,” the Chief Minister assured.
Extending his best wishes to pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage, Abdullah expressed hope for their safe journey. He also conveyed a sentiment that it would be beneficial if pilgrims prayed for the betterment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir during their visit.
