The Mehatpur police in Punjab’s Phagwara region have arrested one individual in connection with drug peddling. The accused, identified as Gurjit Singh of Bute Dian Chhana village, was found in possession of ten grams of heroin. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Nakodar police subsequently apprehended three persons—Sandeep Singh, Akash, and Dhiraj—all residents of Chitti village under the Lambarra police station. They were found with 17 intoxicating tablets. In a separate incident, the Bilga police arrested Buta Singh of Burj Hassan village, recovering 74 intoxicating tablets from his possession. Additionally, the Shahkot police detained Bachitar Singh of Pati Haveli Malsian village, seizing 32 intoxicating tablets.
In a related development concerning serious crimes, the Shahkot police have registered a case against two individuals, Rajan and Jashan of Sandhawal Mand village, for alleged attempt to murder and firing. The complaint was filed by Manjit Kaur of Rampur village, who reported that the accused forcibly entered her residence and discharged a firearm. A case has been filed against them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Further adding to the criminal activities reported, the Nakodar police have booked an unidentified person for allegedly kidnapping a girl. The victim’s father, a resident of Kutibal village under the Lohian Khas police station, lodged a complaint stating that an unknown individual enticed his daughter to leave with him on the pretext of marriage. An investigation is currently underway.
Separately, the Shahkot police have initiated legal proceedings against Paramjit Singh, a resident of Gore village under the Kotwali police station in Kapurthala district, in connection with a dowry harassment complaint. Mandeep Kaur, wife of the accused and a resident of Pati Shahla Nagar, Malsian village police station, alleged that her husband has been subjecting her to harassment and demanding additional dowry since their marriage.
In a tragic incident, a migrant worker identified as Mausam Kumar, a native of Bihar presently residing in Seham village, was electrocuted. His wife, Saurav Devi, informed the police that the incident occurred while he was working. Following the post-mortem examination, the police handed over the body to the family for the completion of last rites.
