MSME Sector a Pillar of Growth in Uttar Pradesh

Minister Chaudhary emphasized the vital role of Uttar Pradesh’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in driving economic growth and employment. The state is home to around 96 lakh MSME enterprises, providing employment to approximately 1.65 crore people. The minister lauded the sector as a significant pillar of employment, innovation, and economic advancement for the state.

The effectiveness of the state’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative was also a key point of discussion. The ODOP scheme has successfully linked local craftsmanship and traditional arts to global markets, creating new avenues for economic prosperity. Under this initiative, over 20,000 individuals have received margin money assistance totaling approximately Rs 897 crore, which has in turn generated an estimated 3.16 lakh job opportunities across various districts.

Furthermore, the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana has been instrumental in uplifting traditional artisans. The scheme has provided modern toolkits and essential training to over 4.41 lakh artisans, enhancing their skills and enabling them to compete in contemporary markets. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to preserving traditional crafts while fostering economic self-sufficiency among artisans.

Industrial Parks and Future Export Potential

To further bolster the industrial ecosystem, the state is actively developing MSME parks under the PLEDGE program. These parks are being established across Uttar Pradesh to create a conducive environment for industrial growth and attract further investment. So far, MSME parks have received approval in 12 districts, signaling a strategic approach to enhancing the state’s industrial infrastructure and competitiveness.

Looking ahead, India is poised to significantly expand its trade presence within the BRICS group, with projections indicating that exports to member countries could exceed USD 200 billion by the year 2030. For the fiscal year 2025-2026 alone, India’s exports to BRICS countries reportedly totaled over USD 96 billion. With continued advancements in industry, technology, and agriculture, coupled with sustained growth trends, export volumes for India within the BRICS bloc have the potential to more than quadruple by the close of the decade.
