Bulgaria, Aug. 2: Kashmiri mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Owais Yaqoob delivered the biggest victory of his professional career by defeating previously unbeaten Bulgarian fighter Delyan Georgiev via first-round technical knockout (TKO) at BRAVE CF 107, held in Bulgaria.
Representing India on the international stage, Owais silenced the home crowd with a dominant striking performance, stopping Georgiev with punches at the 4:00 mark of Round 1. The bout was officiated by referee Declan Larkin, who halted the contest after Georgiev was unable to intelligently defend himself.
The victory is particularly significant as Georgiev entered the contest undefeated and was fighting on home soil in front of his local supporters. Owais’ win not only handed the Bulgarian his first professional defeat but also marked a major achievement for Indian and Kashmiri MMA on the global stage.
According to the official fight record, Owais improved his professional MMA record to 6 wins and 1 loss, while Georgiev’s record dropped to 3 wins and 1 loss following his first career setback.
Following the victory, Owais expressed gratitude to Allah before addressing the crowd and delivering a message of sportsmanship.
“Alhamdulillah. I love Bulgaria. I know they don’t like me, but I still love Bulgaria. And I have my people who support me—the people of India,” Owais said after the fight.
The emotional post-fight remarks were widely appreciated for reflecting humility and respect despite competing in hostile territory.
The result adds another impressive international victory to Owais’ resume, continuing his rise in professional MMA. His recent performances have included multiple stoppage victories, further establishing him as one of the promising fighters representing India on the international circuit.
