Saharanpur Accountant and Gym Owner Dies by Suicide

A 55-year-old man, who served as an accountant at a private college and also owned a gym, has died by suicide by shooting himself with a country-made firearm at his residence in Saharanpur district. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Salempur village, falling under the jurisdiction of Sarsawa police station.

The Chenab Times has learned that the deceased has been identified as Devdutt Sharma. According to preliminary police reports, Sharma returned home from his work on Saturday evening, consumed dinner, and subsequently allegedly took his own life by shooting himself in the head. The sound of the gunshot alerted neighbours and individuals present at his gym, which was situated on the same premises as his residence. They rushed to the scene and transported him to the Government Medical College in Pilkhani, where he was pronounced dead by attending doctors.

Circle Officer Pawan Kumar stated that Sharma was employed as an accountant at Balaji College of Law. In addition to his professional role, he also operated a gym from a section of his home. Prior to the incident, Sharma reportedly sent a detailed message to his niece via WhatsApp. This message is understood to have conveyed his emotional distress and outlined his final wishes. Police are currently examining the contents of this message as part of their ongoing investigation.

Family members have indicated to the authorities that Sharma, who had been married to Seema for 33 years, had been experiencing difficulties in his marital relationship in recent times. The couple has two sons. The elder son, Abhishek, is employed in Saudi Arabia, while the younger son, Aditya, is pursuing his studies in Chandigarh, according to information provided by the police. The family’s account suggests a period of marital discord preceding the tragedy.
