SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar has stated that the government is dedicated to enhancing the economic well-being and livelihoods of artisans, craftsmen, traders, and those involved in the tourism sector across the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Sagar made these remarks during interactions with various public delegations, traders’ associations, and representatives of tourism bodies at the party headquarters in Srinagar. Hazratbal MLA Salman Ali Sagar was also present during these discussions.
The visiting delegations briefed Sagar on a range of issues pertinent to their respective areas and sectors. He assured them that comprehensive efforts would be undertaken to address their concerns and ensure the availability of essential amenities.
During the meetings, Sagar communicated with the relevant authorities, issuing directives for immediate action to resolve several issues brought forth by the delegations. He acknowledged the significant hardships faced by artisans, craftsmen, traders, and tourism stakeholders in recent years, particularly since 2019, citing adverse impacts of certain policies on traditional occupations and businesses.
Sagar emphasised that the National Conference remains committed to fostering the revival of traditional industries, generating employment prospects, and stimulating economic activity throughout Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted that numerous individuals reliant on handicrafts and traditional skills had been compelled to abandon their ancestral professions due to these challenges.
In a related development, representatives from the Khonakhun New Mamta Hoteliers Association also met with Sagar, apprising him of local issues. Sagar indicated that tourism and infrastructure development in Khonakhun and its surrounding areas are set to receive a substantial boost. He noted that an allocation of Rs 1.52 crore is designated for various developmental works, including the construction and enhancement of footpaths, bridges, protection walls, and other vital infrastructure.
These development projects, Sagar explained, are aimed at improving basic amenities, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the region, and consequently increasing tourist arrivals. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would invigorate local tourism, businesses, trade, and employment opportunities. The Hoteliers Association representatives conveyed their gratitude to Sagar for these development-focused initiatives and the promotion of tourism in the area.
