SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is scheduled to convene a crucial meeting of its Unfair Means (UFM) Committee on August 20. The committee will convene at the JKBOSE office in Rehari Colony, Jammu, to deliberate on cases involving alleged malpractice by candidates who appeared in various examinations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting, slated to commence at 10:30 am, will focus on examinations for Classes 10, 11, and 12 pertaining to the Annual Private/Bi-Annual 2026 cycle across both the Summer and Winter Zones of the Jammu Division. Additionally, cases related to the Class 10 JKSOS Annual/Bi-Annual examinations for the 2024-25 academic session will be reviewed.
The proceedings will be chaired by the Joint Secretary, Secrecy/UFM, Jammu Division. The committee’s mandate is to meticulously examine each case and reach a resolution in strict adherence to the prevailing regulations governing examination malpractices. Candidates implicated in alleged unfair means have been formally notified and are required to appear before the committee. They are also instructed to present their defence, accompanied by any relevant supporting evidence they may possess.
JKBOSE has indicated that comprehensive details regarding the roll numbers of the concerned candidates, along with the specific schedule for the proceedings, are readily accessible on the board’s official website. This measure aims to ensure transparency and provide candidates with the necessary information to prepare for their appearance before the committee.
The Unfair Means Committee plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of the examination process conducted by JKBOSE. By diligently investigating allegations of cheating, copying, or any other form of malpractice, the committee helps ensure a level playing field for all students. The outcomes of these deliberations can range from imposing penalties on the involved candidates, such as debarment from future examinations, to exonerating them if the allegations are not substantiated.
The JKBOSE oversees examinations for a significant number of students across Jammu and Kashmir, making the fair conduct of these tests a paramount concern for the educational landscape of the Union Territory. The board regularly updates its examination bylaws and procedures to align with best practices in examination administration and to deter any attempts at undermining academic merit.
The examination system in Jammu and Kashmir, like in other parts of India, is subject to stringent regulations to maintain educational standards. Allegations of unfair means are taken seriously by examination authorities, and committees like the UFM Committee are established to provide a formal mechanism for addressing such issues. The systematic review of these cases underscores the commitment to fairness and accountability within the academic framework.
The board’s initiative to make details available online reflects a move towards greater digital accessibility and public information dissemination. Candidates are advised to carefully review the information on the official JKBOSE website to avoid any procedural omissions when preparing for the committee meeting. The thorough examination of each case is expected to contribute to the overall credibility and fairness of the examinations conducted under the purview of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education.
