Jammu and Kashmir: Body of Srinagar Youth Retrieved from Nallah Sindh After Two-Day Search

SRINAGAR: The body of an 18-year-old youth from Srinagar, who was swept away in the fast-flowing Nallah Sindh, was retrieved on Saturday after an intensive two-day joint search and rescue operation in the Kangan area of Ganderbal district.

The Chenab Times has learned that the deceased has been identified as Danish Bilal, a resident of Srinagar. The incident occurred on Friday when Bilal reportedly slipped and was carried away by the strong currents of Nallah Sindh near the Dumping Park at Kijpara in Kangan while bathing. Onlookers alerted the authorities immediately after he disappeared beneath the water.

Following the report, personnel from the Kangan Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units from Ganderbal and Gund, and local residents initiated a multi-agency search operation. The rescue teams faced challenging conditions, navigating treacherous water speeds and cold temperatures throughout Friday and Saturday. Their efforts culminated in the recovery of the body near the Preng area.

Officials stated that after the completion of necessary medico-legal formalities, the body would be handed over to the bereaved family for the last rites. The local police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have commenced an investigation.

In response to such incidents, local administration officials have reiterated advisories for the public. They urge both local youth and tourists to exercise extreme caution when near fast-flowing water bodies, particularly Nallah Sindh, during the summer months when water levels and currents are often unpredictable and dangerous. These advisories aim to prevent future tragedies by promoting awareness of the inherent risks associated with these natural environments.
