Police Seize Suspicious India Post-Marked Vehicle in Jammu, Launch Probe

Jammu – Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized a suspicious vehicle bearing India Post markings during a routine check in Jammu’s Narwal area, prompting an investigation into its potential use in anti-national activities, officials said Thursday.

The red-coloured vehicle, which lacked a registration plate, was intercepted late Wednesday night during a standard security operation, police said. Upon being signaled to stop, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

“Initial inspection revealed a specially modified compartment inside the vehicle, raising suspicions about its possible use for transporting illegal materials,” said Superintendent of Police (City) Ajay Sharma.

While the investigation remains ongoing, police said preliminary indications suggest the vehicle may have been involved in bovine smuggling, a recurring issue in the region. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of the vehicle being used for activities detrimental to national security.

The India Post logo on the vehicle has added another layer to the investigation, with officials working to determine whether it was a genuine government vehicle or a case of impersonation.

“The matter is being probed thoroughly and all angles are under consideration,” Sharma added.

Security has been heightened in the area, and law enforcement agencies are collaborating to trace the origin of the vehicle and the identity of the driver.
