IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Jammu Region, Chenab Valley Faces Flooding

SRINAGAR, August 29 — The Meteorological Center Srinagar issued a weather update at 9:33 p.m. IST today, warning of one or two spells of moderate to heavy rain with brief intense showers likely over the next 12 hours in Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Reasi, Doda, Samba, and Udhampur. The alert highlighted the risk of flash floods and landslides at vulnerable spots.

Around the same time, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms struck the Chenab Valley, affecting Bhaderwah, Doda, Saraz, Thathri, Bhalessa, Banihal, Ramban, Drabshalla, Kishtwar, and other areas, as reported by The Chenab Times. Overflowing streets raised concerns among residents, with many seeking updates on highway conditions for tomorrow. The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban confirmed no vehicular movement will be allowed on NH-44 tomorrow due to ongoing restoration work at Ballii Nallah amid rains, urging commuters to follow traffic advisories and contact TCU before travel.

Separately, ARTO Kishtwar Tasleem Wani stated that Sinthan Road was passable today but noted that tomorrow’s status would be updated in the morning, contingent on fair weather.
