JAMMU — The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association wrote to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Thursday, seeking immediate intervention to repatriate 23-year-old Sachin Khajuria from Jammu’s Khour area, who is trapped in the Russia-Ukraine warzone after being deceived into joining the Russian Army, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Sachin, a resident of Pahariwala village in Akhnoor, left for Russia on a study visa in August 2025. Upon arrival, he and others were allegedly forced to sign Russian-language documents, promised porter jobs but sent to weapon training camps and deployed to the frontline against Ukrainian forces, the Association stated. His passport was seized by the Russian Army, preventing escape. Two other Jammu youths have reportedly faced similar deceit.
The family is in deep distress, appealing for urgent government assistance. National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said: “Sachin’s family is living in constant fear and anxiety, unsure about his safety and future. It is deeply concerning that young men are being lured abroad with false assurances of education or employment, only to be exploited and forced into war.”
The Association urged Jaishankar to engage Russian and Ukrainian authorities for Sachin’s safe repatriation and called on the Indian Embassy in Moscow to provide support. It also demanded a crackdown on illegal recruitment networks, awareness campaigns, and monitoring to protect vulnerable youth.
