Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna has emphasized the need for close coordination between police officials and event organizers at the district level to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for upcoming festivals, birth anniversaries of prominent figures, and other significant public events. The directive was issued during a high-level security review meeting held via video conferencing on Wednesday, which included all Additional Directors General of Police (ADGs) of zones, Inspectors General/Deputy Inspectors General (IGs/DIGs) of ranges, police commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).
Emphasis on Proactive Festival Preparedness
The meeting focused on bolstering law and order across the state in anticipation of a series of festivals and commemorative events. DGP Krishna instructed senior police officials to ensure that timely and necessary arrangements are made, stressing the importance of proactive engagement with event organizers. This approach aims to preempt potential issues and guarantee public safety and security during these times.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the DGP also reviewed the progress of several key initiatives, including the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS), the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) campaign, and the City Reducing Traffic Congestion (C-RTC) campaign. Discussions also covered the use of the Yaksh App and e-evidence, alongside other law and order-related matters.
Action Taken on Negligence in Safety Initiatives
A significant portion of the review was dedicated to the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) scheme, which aims to reduce road accidents. The DGP directed that action be initiated against police officials who have not adhered to instructions or have not performed as required under this scheme. Out of the 487 police stations selected for the ZFD initiative, 46 have unfortunately reported an increase in the number of accidents, with five stations recording a significant surge.
Consequently, the in-charges of these five police stations—one each from Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kannauj, Barabanki, and Jaunpur—have been removed from field duty and line-attached. Furthermore, preliminary inquiries have been ordered against the traffic circle officers of Barabanki and Jaunpur for their alleged negligence. This action underscores the administration’s commitment to accountability in road safety measures.
Strengthening Media and Public Grievance Redressal
The DGP also placed a special emphasis on effective coordination with the media. Officials were instructed to provide factual and updated information regarding any incident promptly to both print and electronic media. The importance of updating social media platforms with correct information in a timely manner and responding to significant posts was also highlighted, aiming to foster public trust and clarity. The review also assessed the implementation of e-evidence procedures, with instructions issued for providing comprehensive training to all investigating officers to ensure the timely and quality submission of charge sheets, adhering to the timelines set by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Regarding public grievance redressal, improvements in the IGRS system were noted, but the DGP stressed the need for greater accountability. District officers were directed to personally monitor complaints and ensure prompt, transparent, and quality disposal through regular public hearings. Additionally, security arrangements on court premises across the districts were to be regularly reviewed, with a focus on effective checking at entry gates, the functionality of CCTV cameras, and emergency response systems.
Broader Law and Order Context
The meeting also touched upon strengthening court security, ensuring proper disposal of seized materials under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and maintaining regular dialogue with trade bodies to address concerns such as market security and cyber fraud. The DGP urged all officers to adopt proactive policing strategies, leverage modern technology, and prioritize timely and effective grievance redressal while maintaining robust law and order throughout the state.
