SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the Office of the Principal Census Officer (Urban) have urged residents of Srinagar’s urban areas to actively engage in the self-enumeration phase of the upcoming Census 2027. The period for this digital data submission is scheduled from May 17 to May 31, 2027.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that this initiative represents a significant move towards a more modern, transparent, and citizen-centric census process. It empowers households to directly input their demographic and housing information via an online portal, aiming to enhance data accuracy and streamline the enumeration exercise by reducing reliance on manual methods.
Officials have emphasized the critical importance of comprehensive participation from every household. The data collected is intended to form a robust statistical foundation essential for effective future planning and development initiatives across various sectors. Residents are strongly encouraged to complete their submissions within the designated timeframe and ensure the accuracy and completeness of the information provided.
The public has been advised to utilize the official Census Self-Enumeration Portal for all submissions. It is also crucial for residents to securely store the Self-Enumeration (SE) ID generated upon completion, as this will be required during subsequent verification stages. Authorities have cautioned against delaying the process to avoid last-minute difficulties and to ensure the smooth execution of census operations.
Following the self-enumeration phase, trained census enumerators will conduct field verification visits. Households will need to present their SE ID during these visits. Residents have been asked to offer their full cooperation to the field staff to facilitate this verification process.
The Office of the Principal Census Officer reiterated the pivotal role the Census plays in effective governance. The data is indispensable for policy formulation, administrative planning, infrastructure development, urban planning strategies, the delivery of welfare programs, and the equitable allocation of resources. Accurate census data directly impacts the efficacy of these critical functions.
To support residents and address any queries, a dedicated 24×7 Census Control Room has been established at the Office of the Principal Census Officer (Urban), Srinagar. Contact numbers for the control room have been provided for assistance.
Officials have characterized the census exercise as a fundamental civic responsibility. They stressed that the active participation of the public is paramount in shaping evidence-based policies that will guide the region’s development trajectory for years to come. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the census data accurately reflects the population and its needs.
