SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday firmly dismissed speculation concerning potential defections from the National Conference party, asserting that no Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) would switch allegiance to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Chief Minister, speaking to reporters in Tangmarg, characterized the reports as baseless, stating that such claims lacked any substantial foundation.
Addressing questions related to allegations involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Chief Minister stated that the PDP had previously assisted the BJP during Rajya Sabha elections. He indicated that this support had already been substantiated through information obtained under the Right to Information Act.
Abdullah further emphasized that his government operates with independence, refuting any notion of taking instructions from external organizations. He asserted that the administration acts and speaks autonomously on behalf of its mandate.
Regarding the reopening of tourist destinations, the Chief Minister mentioned that the matter had been a subject of discussion within the Assembly. He confirmed that several tourist locations had already been made accessible to the public, with the remaining destinations slated for reopening in a phased manner.
Responding to inquiries about a potential cabinet expansion, Abdullah indicated that a decision would be made at an opportune moment. He refrained from providing a specific timeline or commitment regarding the matter.
