Growers from Ramanagara are set to organize a mango fair in Mangaluru, offering a variety of popular mangoes directly to consumers. The event, scheduled to take place from May 28 to May 31 at Kadri Park, aims to provide high-quality, naturally ripened mangoes at competitive prices.
The Ramanagara Zilla Maavu Thotada Belegarara Marata Sangha, in collaboration with the horticulture department, is organizing the ‘Maavu Mela’. Approximately 25 mango growers from Ramanagara are expected to participate, showcasing a range of varieties including Alphonso, Badami, Mallika, Raspuri, Malgova, Sindhura, Kalapadi, Totapuri, Banganapalli, and Sugar Baby. Sales will be conducted daily from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Organizers anticipate selling around 25 tons of mangoes during the four-day fair.
The fair is set to be inaugurated on May 28 at 11 a.m. by U T Khader, the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will preside over the event. Several dignitaries, including Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH, Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV, and officials from the horticulture department and local administration, are expected to attend.
This initiative by Ramanagara growers aims to bypass intermediaries and offer consumers a direct channel to purchase fresh, quality mangoes while ensuring fair returns for the farmers. The event is also supported by the horticulture department, which is providing encouragement despite facing funding shortages for direct organization this year.
