The administration in Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for the Census 2027 and has urged residents to provide accurate and complete information to enumerators. The upcoming census aims to create an updated demographic profile of the Union Territory, which will be crucial for evidence-based planning, effective implementation of welfare schemes, and strengthening governance mechanisms.
Census 2027 Phases and Public Cooperation
The Census 2027 will be conducted in three phases: Self-Enumeration, House Listing and Housing Census (HLO), and Population Enumeration. The self-enumeration phase, which precedes the house listing, allows citizens to digitally submit their details conveniently. Authorities have emphasized the importance of public cooperation with field teams to ensure the smooth, accurate, and timely collection of data.
Dr. Basharat Qayoom, Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama and Principal Census Officer, has actively promoted the census initiative. He participated in the launch of the self-enumeration process in Pulwama, completing his own details on the spot and encouraging widespread public participation. Help desks have been established at Panchayat and Patwar Halqa levels to assist residents with the self-enumeration process. Field functionaries, including supervisors and enumerators, have been directed to maintain professionalism, transparency, and a people-friendly approach.
Importance of Accurate Census Data
The data gathered during the census is vital for policy formulation and resource allocation, aligning with the evolving needs of the population. The administration has underscored that accurate census data is a fundamental exercise for effective planning and policy development. Charge Officers have been instructed to ensure accuracy, completeness, and transparency in data collection and to closely monitor field-level arrangements.
Preparations for the census include the formation and mapping of Houselisting Blocks, appointment of enumerators and supervisors, and readiness of logistics and digital infrastructure. Training schedules for enumerators and supervisors are being devised to ensure they are adequately equipped before field operations commence. The Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal will be utilized for real-time monitoring and reporting, with a focus on seamless coordination among all stakeholders. Data at the district level will be vetted before being finalized on the portal to guarantee accuracy and reliability.
