Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar has publicly distanced himself from his son Neeraj Bharti’s recent accusations against the state government and its leadership, labelling the claims as “wild allegations” and unequivocally condemning his son’s stance. The minister asserted his loyalty to the ruling party, stating that his son’s actions do not reflect his own views or the government’s functioning.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Minister Chander Kumar, speaking to media in Shimla, expressed his strong disapproval of the statements made by his son, Neeraj Bharti. Bharti, who had been vocal on social media with serious accusations against the government, recently resigned as the Vice-President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) after being issued a show-cause notice by the HPCC president. The minister emphasised that if his son harboured any grievances, he should have addressed them through appropriate internal channels rather than resorting to public accusations.
Chander Kumar stated, “It’s alright to express your resentment at an appropriate platform if you have some issues, but making wild allegations like collecting suitcases, keeping two here and sending three there are wrong. It is an attack on the government and doesn’t send out a right message.” He further elaborated that such public pronouncements do not enhance one’s political standing but instead cast a shadow of doubt over the party and the administration.
The minister suggested that Neeraj Bharti could have engaged directly with the Chief Minister or the HPCC chief to resolve any concerns he might have had. “Such acts don’t raise your political stature; they only raise questions about the party and the government,” Kumar reiterated, underscoring the importance of maintaining decorum and utilizing established internal mechanisms for conflict resolution within political parties.
Bharti’s resignation from his vice-presidential post within the HPCC, which was accepted on Friday, followed a period of escalating criticism leveled against the state government on social media platforms. These allegations, though dismissed by the Agriculture Minister as unsubstantiated and “wild,” have been seized upon by the opposition, which is now leveraging them to intensify its political attacks against the incumbent government.
The political fallout from these internal party disputes and public accusations is expected to have ramifications for the ruling coalition in Himachal Pradesh. The opposition parties have indicated their intention to pursue these allegations further in the legislative assembly and through public campaigns, seeking to capitalize on any perceived cracks within the government’s unity. Minister Chander Kumar’s firm rebuttal aims to draw a clear line between his position and that of his son, reinforcing his commitment to the party and its leadership.
The episode highlights the challenges faced by political leaders when familial ties intersect with public office, particularly in an environment where social media has become a potent tool for political discourse and dissent. The coming days are likely to see further political maneuvering as the opposition attempts to exploit the situation and the ruling party works to contain the damage and present a united front. The implications for the political landscape in Himachal Pradesh remain to be seen as the government navigates these internal and external pressures.
