Jammu and Kashmir Minister Criticises Opposition Leaders Over AIIMS Visits

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakina Itoo, has publicly questioned the authority of opposition leaders, including PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and Waqf Board chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi, for their recent visits and engagements at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The minister asserted that individuals without official mandates should not attempt to conduct reviews or project authority.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Minister Itoo, speaking to reporters in Kulgam, stated that the opposition leaders lacked the official standing to hold such meetings. “With what authority are they holding meetings? They are neither ministers nor in power. They should understand their position. I see these actions as frustration,” she remarked, emphasizing that such conduct by unelected individuals is inappropriate.

The minister reiterated the commitment of the National Conference (NC) government, which she stated enjoys the people’s mandate, to addressing public concerns. She highlighted that the administration, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has been actively engaged in resolving key issues facing the Union Territory.

Among the significant issues being pursued by the government, according to Minister Itoo, is the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. She indicated that the administration has been actively working on this matter for the past 19 months, engaging in dialogue and other relevant efforts. The government plans to intensify its efforts, with NC legislators scheduled to participate in a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament. The protest aims to press for the restoration of statehood and the fulfilment of commitments made to the region.

Minister Itoo further stated that numerous public issues have been presented to the government, with many already resolved. She assured that genuine public demands would be addressed in a phased and timely manner, underscoring the government’s dedication to public welfare and administrative responsiveness. The minister’s remarks come amidst ongoing political discourse within Jammu and Kashmir regarding governance and the region’s administrative status.
