SHIMLA – The Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Professor Mahavir Singh, has called for a synergistic approach in research, advocating for the integration of Raja Yoga principles with nanoscience to enhance human health and consciousness.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Professor Singh articulated this vision while addressing participants as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a six-day National Workshop on Yoga Therapy and Alternative Therapies. The workshop, organized by the Department of Yoga Studies, is a precursor to the month-long activities leading up to International Day of Yoga 2026.

The national workshop is designed to foster awareness regarding the therapeutic potential of yoga and various alternative healing modalities. It is anticipated to draw a diverse audience of participants from across the nation, reflecting a growing interest in holistic health practices.

Professor Singh, in his address, emphasized that yoga transcends mere physical exercise, serving as a potent instrument for comprehensive personality development. He highlighted yoga’s contemporary relevance, stating, “In present times, yoga has emerged as a highly beneficial tool for addressing rising levels of stress, depression and various lifestyle-related health issues.” He further urged students, research scholars, and faculty members to embed yoga practices into their daily routines, underscoring the university’s commitment to promoting research and innovation in yoga, health sciences, and the Indian Knowledge System.

The inaugural session featured Swami Krishnananda Giri as the eminent speaker and Dr. Pankaj Lalit as the guest of honour. Swami Krishnananda Giri expounded on the crucial role of yogic practices in harmonizing and directing vital energies, which is instrumental in the prevention and management of both physical and psychological ailments. He reiterated that yoga is a cornerstone for achieving overall health and well-being.

Dr. Pankaj Lalit, meanwhile, stressed the interconnectedness of mental and physical health, asserting that a healthy mind is as vital as a healthy body. He underscored the significance of dedicated yoga practice, or sadhana, in cultivating mental equilibrium, inner peace, and holistic wellness.

Earlier in the program, Dr. Arpita Negi, the coordinator for the International Day of Yoga (IDY)-2026 activities, provided a detailed overview of the preliminary programs and events that have been organized in anticipation of the upcoming Yoga Day celebrations. Her briefing set the context for the intensive workshop ahead.

Following the inaugural speeches, dignitaries formally opened the practical therapy sessions of the workshop. These sessions encompass a range of therapeutic interventions, including yoga therapy, mud therapy, and acupressure therapy. The initial day of the workshop saw over 150 participants engaging actively and deriving benefits from these diverse therapeutic modalities, signaling a promising start to the week-long event.
