Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sharply criticized the Congress party’s decision to sing only two stanzas of the national song ‘Vande Mataram,’ labeling it as anti-national, a defiance of law, and an act of appeasement driven by vote bank politics.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Shah, in a statement issued on social media platform ‘X,’ specifically referred to the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) resolution to adhere to a 1937 party decision regarding the rendition of the national song. He asserted that this move undermines the national sentiment and treads a path of appeasement reminiscent of past political decisions.
Shah traced the historical context, alleging that the Congress itself was responsible for fragmenting ‘Vande Mataram’ into two parts in 1937 for the sake of appeasement. He argued that this act subsequently strengthened the two-nation theory, which ultimately led to the partition of India. The Union Home Minister highlighted that the current government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had taken steps to rectify this historical ‘mistake’ by giving legal form to the full rendition of the national song.
The Union Minister further contended that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party is now reiterating this path of appeasement for electoral gain. He stressed that the nation had already borne the consequences of fragmenting ‘Vande Mataram’ once, implying that repeating such actions would be detrimental.
Shah appealed to the citizens of the country to unite and voice their opposition to what he termed the Congress’s appeasement politics. The CWC’s decision, made the previous day, stipulated that only two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ would be sung at all party events going forward, aligning with the 1937 resolution.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, J.P. Nadda, also weighed in on the matter, reportedly slamming the Congress and alleging that the opposition party had transformed into the ‘new Muslim League’ in its pursuit of votes. This development underscores a significant political debate surrounding national symbols and their use in political discourse within India.
