NIA conducted raids at residence of seven Jamat e Islami leader in Doda, Kishtwar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the role of Jamat e Islami and its shadow organisation Falaya-e-Aam in terror funding and waging war against the country, conducted raids at 7 residential houses of Jamat leaders in Kishtwar and Doda Districts today as part of a major crackdown on the banned frontal organisation Jamat e Islami and its shadow organisation Falaya-e-Aam.

As per the details available with with Chenab Times, in Doda District the raid was conducted at the houses of six leaders identified as Dr. Anayatullhah Wani son of Mohd Iqbal Wani resident of Loga Behota, Sarwal Block Marmat, Sadar- u -Din resident of Dugli, Block Bhalla, Mohammad Sadiq resident of village Zenhari, Tehsil Phagsoo, falling under jurisdiction of Police Station Thathri, Aftab Ahmed Khokhar son of Barkat Ali resident of Main Bazar Doda, Abdul Hafiz Sheikh resident of Ghat, Doda and Mushtaq Ahmad Wani resident of Bari, Marmat District Doda.

The raid began in the early hours of the morning and lasted for several hours. Later, all Jamat commanders whose homes were raided by the NIA were transported to a neighbouring police station for questioning, along with some of their family members.

Similarly, in Kishtwar, the NIA raided the home of District President Abdul Majeed Sheikh of Jamat e Islami Kishtwar, which is located in the village Lanyal on the outskirts of Kishtwar town. Sheikh, along with former Jamat-e-Islami President Mohammad Iqbal Malik and senior functionary Ghulam Qadir Bhat, was detained in 2019 after the government imposed a ban on it, and was later released on bail by the local court.

Although NIA officials have not revealed any specifics regarding the operations in Doda and Kishtwar, sources tell the Chenab Times that NIA officials took the leaders’ mobile phones and other electronic devices, as well as the phones of some of their family members.

The Jamat-e-Islami runs a Madrasa and school in Kishtwar called Jamia Marfiya, and NIA is looking for more education to be imparted in the Madrasa and school, in addition to the funds used to provide infrastructure by the Jamat shadow organisation Falaya-e-Aam, which runs the banned Jamat’s education sector in J&K.

The Jamat leaders were interrogated till the last reports arrived.

Local police, the CRPF, and the magistrate aided the NIA investigators.
