As India marks its 75th anniversary of independence, Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti sent a video message from space wishing India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), success on the “Gaganyaan” programme, which is India’s first-ever human space mission and is scheduled to launch in 2023.
“On behalf of ISA, NASA and all international partners, I would like to wish best of luck to ISRO as it works on getgonian programme and gets ready to sent humans into space. Expanding our partnership with ISRO and exploring the universe together is a goal for all of us for future space explorations,” says Ms Cristoforetti in a video shared by Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
On the occasion of the birth of Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of the Indian space programme, Sandhu shared the message.
Ms. Cristoforetti also discussed the joint NASA-ISRO Earth-observing mission in the one-minute, 13-second video, and stated that the International Space Agency is strengthening its relationship with ISRO in preparation for next space missions.
“Expanding our partnership with ISRO and exploring the universe together is a goal for all of us for future space explorations,” she said.
According to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, “Gaganyaan” is ready to launch next year, and people of Indian origin will travel to space.
The mission’s trials, which are now planned to begin in 2023, will really begin by the end of this year, according to the minister.
“One or two people with Indian origin will travel to space in the upcoming year. The ‘Gaganyaan’ preparations have been finished. Two trials will be held prior to that by the end of this year. The first trial will be empty, while the second will send Vyommitra, a female robot astronaut,” During a press briefing, Mr. Singh said.
Our astronauts will participate in the third mission “based on the results of these two flights,” he continued.
With the “Gaganyaan” mission, India hopes to surpass the United States, Russia, and China as the fourth country in the world to launch a human spaceflight mission.
