The Cybercrime Investigation Unit (CIU) of the Kishtwar district police in India successfully recovered Rs 1,22,557 ($1,512) fraudulently taken from a resident through a QR code scam, authorities said on Saturday.
The victim, Mr. Jai Prakash, reported the unauthorized transaction on February 9th, involving a fake Netflix QR code, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom.
“A meticulous investigation revealed the funds were transferred to a merchant account named Payxsilica.com,” SSP Qayoom said, commending the “relentless determination and advanced skillsets” of the team led by PSI Amrinder Singh and PSI Moin Khan.
He described the recovery as “a significant victory in the ongoing battle against online scams and financial fraud.”
SSP Qayoom urged the public to remain vigilant, educate themselves about online safety, and report any cybercrime incidents immediately through the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930) or the Kishtwar PCR (9906154100), or by filing an online complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
“Together, we can forge a more secure digital landscape for our community,” he said.
