DLSA Bhaderwah organizes awareness camp on NYAYA Mitra Scheme

District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah  today organized an awareness camp and a permanent Lok Adalat  in the premises of District Court Complex Bhaderwah  which was presided by the Chairman, DLSA, District Principal and Sessions Judge, Ashok  Kumar Shavan . During the camp the people and litigants  were educated and aware on the NYAYA Mitra Scheme and NYAYA Bhandu ( Pro bono ).

Speaking on the occasion  Chairman, DLSA, District Principal and Sessions Judge, Ashok  Kumar Shavan said Nyaya Mitra (hereinafter NM) program aims at assisting the district judiciary in reduction of pendency of ten year old cases and increasing access to justice for marginalized people. He said the program was launched in 227 selected districts of 16 States i.e. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, eight states of North Eastern Region and Jammu & Kashmir during April 2017 and selection of district courts for Nyaya Mitra was done based on highest pendency of court cases over 10 years of period sourced from National Judiciary Data Grid (NJDG) database. He also informed NAYA Mitra Scheme also  identify the cases in Pre-Lok adalats to be referred to the Lok adalats on priority basis. Member Secretary DLSA Susheel Singh  informed that the Nyaya Bandhu programme is aimed at fulfilling the Department of Justice’s critical mandate of enhancing ‘access to justice’ for marginalised sections of the society and the State’s Constitutional obligation of providing ‘free legal aid’ for all.He also informed that  based on the premise of using technology to enhance access to justice for all, the Nyaya Bandhu app will allow marginalised individuals (referred to as ‘Applicants’), seeking quality legal advice and aid, to connect, with ease, via a mobile application with ‘Advocates’ who have volunteered their time and services on this platform.Meanwhile in Lok Adalat 07 benches were constituted and 219 cases were taken up and amount of Rs  23,75,450/- was setteled. The next Lok Adalat will be held on 5th of March 2021 .
