SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has sanctioned an allocation of ₹5.78 crore for the comprehensive restoration and preservation of the historic Lah Wali Bowli located in Rajouri district. The initiative aims to conserve the heritage site, enhance its architectural integrity, and bolster its potential as a significant tourism and cultural destination.
The Chenab Times has learned that the approved funds will be utilized for the meticulous restoration of the ancient stepwell and its associated architectural features. A key objective of the project is to preserve the site’s original character and its profound historical significance, ensuring its authenticity is maintained throughout the conservation process.
The project is strategically designed to augment the tourism appeal of Lah Wali Bowli, thereby promoting Rajouri’s rich historical heritage. Upon completion, the site is expected to be a prominent heritage attraction, drawing visitors interested in historical and cultural tourism.
This approval is part of a broader government program dedicated to conserving and revitalizing historically and culturally important sites across Jammu and Kashmir. This wider initiative seeks to protect the region’s diverse architectural legacy and cultural heritage. Numerous other heritage conservation projects have received approval in recent months across both the Jammu and Kashmir regions of the Union Territory.
Among these approved projects are the repair and renovation of Rattan Garh Fort in Bhaderwah, Doda district; the restoration and renovation of Ziyarat Sharief Khiram; the repair and renovation of the historic Shiv Mandir at Thajiwara in Bijbehara; and the restoration and revival of the historic heritage site of Purmandal in Samba district.
Furthermore, the conservation and upgradation of Imambara Zadibal in Srinagar, the development of the holy spring of Khoo Sahib at Yarwan in Pulwama, the restoration of the historic Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian, and the restoration of Sarvadhar Chaumanda Mata Mandir in Ramban are also included in this comprehensive heritage conservation drive.
The government has emphasized that these heritage conservation efforts are crucial for safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s unique architectural legacy and cultural diversity. A significant aspect of the strategy involves linking these heritage sites with broader tourism development plans and cultural promotion activities.
The restoration of Lah Wali Bowli is anticipated to significantly improve the site’s attractiveness as a heritage destination. This enhancement is expected to contribute positively to local tourism economies while ensuring that the historical significance of this ancient structure is preserved for the benefit and education of future generations.
