They said a Maruti car (JK02AC-7169) driven by Ganesh Kumar of Bahadurpur Arnia and carrying seven other people crashed into a canal near Dak Banglaw Marallian in Mran Sahib late last night.

They added that four people were rescued: Ganesh Kumar, his wife Kanchana, Menu Kumari, Kamal Kumar’s wife, and her son Sushant, while the bodies of Kewal Krishan (60) and his wife Surjeet Kumari were retrieved by a team of SDRF and other rescuers who went to the scene shortly after the accident.

Later, the body of Kamaljeet’s 2-month-old baby Paranshi was discovered, but her sister Manshi remains missing and presumed dead.

A police officer verified that four people died in the disaster, but that many others were rescued. He stated that a case had been filed and that further investigations were underway.
