According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, officers were dispatched to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (in Philadelphia of United States) shortly after midnight in response to a report of a shooter on the ninth floor.
Officers arrived to find the certified nursing assistant (CNA) had been shot by another hospital employee who had fled in a U-Haul van, according to Outlaw.
Someone near 40th Street and Parkside Avenue called down neighbouring police about an hour later, saying a man in scrubs was discharging a weapon, according to Outlaw.
When more cops came, the suspect opened fire on them, prompting all four officers to return fire, according to the police commissioner.
Outlaw said two policemen were shot, one of whom is in critical but stable condition and the other of whom is in stable condition.
According to the police chief, the 55-year-old suspect was also shot and is in critical condition.
“We discovered he was dressed in body armour and wielding various weapons,” she stated. According to Outlaw, one weapon was an AR-15 style rifle, and the other was a pistol.
The motive for the shooting at the hospital has yet to be revealed.
