Pakistan’s ‘Chota Walid’ behind rising attacks in Kashmir, says Report

According to The Print, which cited sources, Pakistani militant ‘Chhota Walid’ is believed to be the mastermind of attacks targeting minorities in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, over the previous week.

According to the report, the militant spent at least two previous stints in Kashmir before infiltrating into Indian territory 20 days ago.

While the actual attacks are thought to have been carried out by local militants, the mastermind is said to be ‘Chhota Walid,’ who has been sent in to incite militant activity, according to the news website.

“Several phone intercepts and inputs suggested that there is pressure on the local militants from their Pakistani handlers to carry out targeted attacks.” The report added.

“Local militants were hesitant to follow out these orders,” says the source. “A source told the publication that ‘Walid’ infiltrated through the LoC roughly 20 days ago to ensure that these attacks were carried out.”

According to security agencies, over the last two months, at least “four to five” groups of terrorists have managed to infiltrate in from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with each group “traditionally” consisting of four to six terrorists.

While the Army was able to foil some infiltration attempts, killing several terrorists and recovering a huge cache of weaponry and ammunition, there are signs that some groups were able to get entry.
