Jaishankar to visit Israel on Oct 19; to solidify post-Netanyahu ties

Tomorrow, October 17, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will go to Israel via the United Arab Emirates for a three-day official visit to solidify diplomatic and political ties in the post-Benjamin Netanyahu era.
EAM Jaishankar will arrive in Dubai on Sunday and will spend October 19-21 in Israel. EAM Jaishankar will meet with Israel’s senior leaders, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, and National Security Advisor Eyal Hulata, during his visit.

A top Israeli Foreign Ministry official said on Friday, ahead of Jaishankar’s arrival, that India is “a strategic partner and a very close friend.” “..

Jaishankar’s trip to Israel comes after a three-country tour of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Armenia.

India and Israel have long had strong connections and have developed tight “cooperation” in intelligence sharing and “counter-insurgency” activities over the years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Israeli rival Naftali Bennett in August. India cherishes its strong cooperation with Israel in areas such as agriculture, water, defence and security, and cyber-security, according to Prime Minister Modi.

Despite the fact that India recognised Israel as a Jewish state in 1950, official diplomatic relations were established on January 29, 1992.

Previously, Israel had a Consulate in Mumbai, which has been open since 1953.

India is Israel’s biggest buyer of military hardware. Various weapon systems, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles have been supplied by the country in recent years, but the transactions have mainly stayed hidden.
